Kuiburi National Park , Prachuap Khiri Khan Thailand

The Wild Elephant Lover Club ( WELC ) has held " wild elephant counting week " from 13-21 March 2010 in His Majestic the King's project " Conservation and Restoration of Kuiburi forest " 40 well trained volunteers of various ages and occupations including students , researcher , wildlife photographers as well as nearby villagers.

The project was financially supported by WWF , Elephant Reintroduction Foundation

The observations were made from 17 platforms that were built around small ponds , grassland patches and elephant trails. To identify the elephants we note marks on the elephant and took photographs using a digital SLR camera with 100-300 lens.

A minimum of 114 elephants were identified .Each elephant was individually identified by age , sex , social formation and unique marks.
